Winter 2

This week we continued our Winter Projects. I decided to keep a little bit of experimentation, but I tried to stick to one theme. I chose to use a more sharp approach to each picture, and I used B&W again. Next week I plan to stick with black and white and a more mysterious approach. I keep my original inspiration of urban life for my pictures no matter what I am experimenting with.

Winter 1

This week we started our Winter project. I chose to do an urban style of photograph, which I didn't necessarily get from one photographer, rather a combination of multiple. I played around with editing a little bit more this week, and I plan to narrow down the style I like for next week. You can see I will have some differing borders on my images, and that's because I wanted to see all of my options for designs that I like, and then choose from there.

Slo Mo 2

This week we took pictures with slow shutter speed (again) in order to create a mysterious effect as light flows across the image. I held the button to take the picture and then jiggled the camera around to create this semi-blurry and flow-like photos.  The really cool effect that I noticed is often it looks light the light is literally pouring out of the light source. I also played around a little bit with some effects in PicMonkey.

Double Exposure

*I was absent for most of the week we did double exposure, so that's why I only have 3*

This week we worked with blending two images together on PicMonkey. Most of the work we did was in class on an online editing software because we didn't need any new photos, we could just use old photos that we already had, and double expose them. Something that I found that worked well for me, as seen in the first two images, is using an image in black and white, and one in color. This creates an awesome effect like no other. Another technique that I found helpful was using two images that contrast in many ways, like shape, texture, or even size.

Reflections

This week we took pictures of puddles and windows for a theme of reflections. My plan was to photograph things that carried an interesting weight through a reflection. I think I got good results because each image captures reflected elements that have their own character or have character when acting as a whole/one. Reflections are tough to master in photography because you must get the perfect angle that reflects just what you wanted and where you wanted. They communicate in opposites, so you must map out your picture instead of going up to a window and justing taking a picture.

Multi-frame Storytelling

I approached this assignment this week by trying to piece two images together that contained similar elements, flow, or possessed a common theme. I tried to solve by editing my images down perfectly after finding two spots that would work together outside. Some things I did while editing were; adjusting the exposure, finding the best balance of black and white levels, and the surrounding textures: the frame. The first multi-frame here is supposed to represent similarity while being separated. The second multi-frame is supposed to show two similar shapes, two people, that were showing emotion. And on the last multi-frame image, I showed two angles and takes on street life, with things like cars and trees to add to the piece.
